Different types of weight loss medication
There are many different types of weight loss medications. Most are appetite suppressants
such as Phentermine, Tenuate,
Ionamin, Didrex, Meridia, Bontril,
Adipex and Phendimetrazine. But make no mistake,
just because these all help suppress your appetite, doesn't mean they all work in exactly the same way...
Phentermine for example, works by increasing your metabolic rate and at the same time
helps decrease your appetite (Phentermine History). Meridia and Adipex, on the other hand, help you lose weight
by acting on the appetite control centers of the brain which many people claim has resulted in significant
weight loss.
And then there's Xenical. This is a unique medication, because
it works in the digestive system, helping to block one-third of the fat you consume from
being digested - meaning the fat just passes through your system without "sticking to your ribs",
or to anything else for that matter. Xenical, however, was not designed for your casual dieter, it
is in fact meant for the long term treatment of significant obesity, and is said to be very effective
when put in use for it's purpose.
Tenuate is also used for the management of obesity, but this drug, in
conjunction with proper diet, exercise and behavior therapy, is to be used for the short-term
management of obesity (as Phenteramine was also originally designed for) - it appears that this medication is not meant for the long-term treatment
of obesity, which, in contrast, is what Xenical is often used for.
